Kensington Girl started as a way of creating a keepsake for school memories.
When the time came for my daughter to move on from a small girls school in Kensington, I wanted to create a keepsake for her to remember this special time in her life. The friendships, the school traditions, the camaraderie of seeing other girls dressed in the same uniform as we approached the school in the morning. What better way than to create a doll like her dressed in her school uniform?
My daughter, not usually keen on dolls, was thrilled with her lookalike, and more than a keepsake, it became the centre of hours of imaginative play. She soon asked for a doll sized sleeping bag, party frocks; the many accessories that could create a world of play. Her friends began asking about the doll and I began to get requests for more school uniforms and so began the idea of making these available on a wider basis.
The best thing for me is that Kensington Girl immediately became a family business. My daughter advises on all product choices, for example, insisting that the dolls needed sleeping bags and pyjamas for sleepovers, and spotting the beautiful dresses we found at a trade fair. My husband has patiently and professionally photographed the dolls and set up our website.
